Dixie, Idaho On August 24, 1862, two prospectors found gold ore in a Gulch. They must have been from the South to name the place Dixie. The gold rush days have come and gone leaving just a few pages in history for this area. Today it is just a small community of a dozen or so. In summer the population grows with summer residents. Snowmobile events during the winter keep the community alive. It is part of the groomed trail system connecting all communities in the area. Dixie has lodging, food, gas and out fitting Services. Many hiking and cross-country skiing trails are marked for outdoor recreation year around. Special Events: |
